Profile

ARTISTS STATEMENT

The essence of my ceramics is the relationship of form, brushstroke and colour, creating movement and depth.

Drawing on both sculptural forms and paper allows and investigation of line, plan and colour which is the foundation of my practice.  This makes the ceramic forms built through traditional coiling, harmonious and the progressive colour interventions controlled.

The finished pieces are more than just painted surfaces.  They are the result of extensive exploration, sampling, understanding and ownership of a range of matt vitreous slips and burnished terra sigilitta.  My marks and brushwork integral to the clay body applied layer on later to emphasise the unique rhythm of each piece.
